It’s a truth universally acknowledged that mothers are incredible.
Parenting takes a mother’s body, mind (and bank balance) through the trenches, and can leave you feeling like a shadow of your former self.
So, how can you claw your way back to the fully-fledged, sassy, independent woman you once were? Let’s take some inspiration from flamingos. Yes, flamingos.
Flamingos actually lose their pink colour while raising their young, it takes so much out of them. Once their chicks have grown up, and are more independent, guess what? They get their pink back. And so can you.
1. The Selfish Flamingo – prioritising you (sometimes)
I know, Mum guilt is real.
Remember this: you can’t pour from an empty cup. You are a better parent when you aren't running solely on caffeine and mum guilt. Recruit that babysitter and book that massage. Take an uninterrupted bath! Whatever helps you to get some downtime that will bring you back to life.
2. The Social Flamingo – Get Back to Your People
Flamingos hang out in flocks because they understand the power of community. If you've been drowning in nothing but nappies and Bluey for weeks, it's time to phone a friend.
New mums often get stuck in the baby bubble, but a coffee (or a wine, we don’t judge) with friends can work wonders in making you feel like yourself again.
So, round up the gang, hand the baby over, and remind yourself that you are more than just a milk dispenser.
We asked the mothers amongst us at EDURINO to share their experiences of ‘reclaiming their pink' after having children:
“Two things that helped me get my pink back after having kids were seeing my boys as a colorful rainbow—carrying a little bit of my pink with them while adding their own colors along the way—and realizing that their brightness reflects the love and energy I give.”
Katha - Senior Brand Manager, EDURINO
"Two things that helped me get my pink back after having kids were meeting my friends and hearing my daughter saying "mummy, you are the best mum in the world."
Anna - Trade Marketing Manager, EDURINO
“Two things that helped me get my pink back after having my son was being able to drink my beloved coffee again after 9 long months and getting back to the gym - a dedicated hour to myself that really helps clear my mind.”
Brigid - UK Brand Ambassador, EDURINO
